| A delegation of China International Corporation Paid a Visit to Nigeria |

Reported by Nigeria Guardian Newspaper dated on 11 August 2005 that a delegation of China International Corporation, an export-import company in China paid a visit to Minister of Commerce, Ambassador Idris Waziri recently. A representative of the corporation unfold his interesting in importing agricultural products such as cassava and premium cocoa beans from Nigeria and was targeting up to 500,000 tons of cassava chips.
The Minister of Commerce, Idris Waziri said that "If we want to get the best from China, we should meet their standards," ,adding that there was enough market in Europe and Africa as well as domestic markets for the products. He also called for the establishment of more processing companies to add value to the products, saying that this would enhance income generation. He stressed the need to take advantage of the opportunity of trade with China to improve on the quality of Nigerian products.
The Nigerian Trade Commissioner to China, Mr. Badeji Abikoye, who accompanied a delegation of China International Corporation, said that the value of trade between Nigeria and China increased to over $2 billion last year,.He said that Nigeria imported goods worth $1.24 billion and exported $452 million worth of products, excluding oil.The trade balance was in favour of China because of the export of machinery, equipment and electronics to Nigeria. The trade prospects for Nigeria in 2005 were high and identified cassava and solid minerals as areas with high potentials.
Waziri said that the delegation of China International Corporation, which ordered the first cassava shipment, had also visited President Olusegun Obasanjo at his Ota farm, discussing with the cassava and cocoa farmers.
