GUANGZHOU, March 5 (Xinhua) -- South China's Guangdong Province plans to spend one billion yuan (about 130 million U. S. dollars) on its information service industry in the coming five years, according to an official with the provincial government Tuesday.

Wen Guohui, director of the Guangdong Provincial Information Industry Bureau, says that the past five years have witnessed the telecommunication industry growing by annual 27 percent, and software proceeds increasing at an annual rate of 11.3 percent.

However, he points out that Guangdong has also seen room for improvements in technology standard setting, industrial design and research and development.

The province will set aside 200 million yuan (about 26.6 million dollars) from 2008 every year to support information industry for five years.
